Need an original solution, create a small crisis

Struggling to find a new and innovative solution to a problem? Try simulating a small crisis. Next time you or your group/team find yourselves faced with a challenge, why not try the following:

  1. Define the challenge.
  2. List all of the items, conditions and tools, etc necessary to meet the challenge.
  3. Brainstorm to find several ways in which you could meet the challenge.
  4. Now remove one of the necessary items from point 2 and repeat point 3 without that item.
  5. Now replace the removed item and remove another item. Repeat this process.

Your goal is to come up with as many possible (and perhaps a few impossible) solutions as you can.

You might just be surprised at the results. Ideas that would never have presented themselves when you had everything necessary to meet the challenge suddenly come to light; ideas that may also work when all the necessary items are back in place.

Have fun :-)!
